Rage against the Regime and stand for Peace and Justice
On Saturday August 2, Rage against the Regime from 12-2 in front of the Humboldt County Courthouse. Bring signs and energy. Noon Protests continue on Saturdays all month
Every Friday from 6-7 pm join Women in Black in silent vigil for Peace in front of the courthouse. and/or...
Every weekday morning, join a small group of people at the courthouse with signs supporting immigrants.
Sisters Get Schooled BINGO!
Also on August 2, Join your Eureka Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence for their Get Schooled Bingo benefitting Outer Space Arcata's Cistem Failure youth drag academy! Advance tickets $25 at eurekasisters.org, and door for $35. Saturday August 2nd, Eureka Women's Club, doors at 5pm game at 6.
Arcata Floating Lantern Ceremony
On Saturday August 9th we remember the deaths at Hiroshima and Nagasaki (80 years ago this year), speak for peace and against nuclear weapons, and remember those we've lost. There will be lantern-making at 9:30 am on the Arcata Plaza, and a ceremony with drumming, music, and a talk by Brenda Perez of Centro del Pueblo at Klopp Lake in the Arcata Marsh in the evening. Humboldt Obon Festival
HAPI (Humboldt Asian and Pacific Islanders) is hosting their fourth annual Obon festival. This traditional Japanese Buddhist festival honors those who came before us. There will be Obon dancing, taiko performances, a Buddhist blessing, an ancestors’ tree, Asian food vendors, kids games, artists, and so much more. The free event takes place on Sunday, August 17th, from 3-7pm, 9th and L st. in Arcata. hapihumboldt.org.
"Justice on Wheels" for Sanctuary Day
Centro del Pueblo is working with Equity Arcata and Cal Poly Humboldt to Celebrate Sanctuary Day--a Committment to Inclusion, Dignity, and Justice for All. There's a bike ride/skate starting from Target in Eureka at 8 am (decorate your wheels with butterflies to symbolize migrations. They'll stop at the Marsh in Arcata, then head to the Plaza where there will be info and music, and on to Arcata's Santuray Garden. facebook/centrodelpueblo.Anti-Racism resources
Thank you to all the folks who are working to learn about, resist, and change the racism this country was built on. We honor the best part of the history of this country, the ideals that helped create it, by remaking it to include, support, and respect all of us.
